Class types and descriptions

All classes are held in-person at our newly decorated studio. Online options will follow in the coming months. In our adult classes we focus on structural integrity, the intelligent use of props, and making yoga accessible to every body. Plus, we provide all the brand-new mats and equipment, so you can just turn up as you are. In the kids classes it’s all about finding fun in movement.

Morning Movement Club

The Ritual for a Better Day Start your morning with a focus on waking up the joints and preparing body and mind for the day ahead. This class is designed to improve mobility and mental clarity through steady, purposeful movement. It is the perfect consistent practice for those looking to build a morning habit.

  • Focus: Mobility, joint health, and energy.

  • Best for: Building healthy habits and those wanting a functional start to their day.

Weekday mornings at 9am

Alignment Yoga

Precision and Stability This is our signature class. Drawing on years of experience and training in the Iyengar Yoga tradition, Jo guides you to focus on the details of postures to extend yourself without suffering. By using props like blocks, straps, and chairs, we ensure that every person—regardless of age or flexibility—can find the best way to work for their unique body.

  • Focus: Posture, strength, and structural integrity.

  • Best for: All levels, including beginners and those managing injuries or physical limitations.

1700 Monday & 1810 Wednesday

Yoga for Busy Minds

A Mental Reset A class open to anyone. This session is specifically designed to settle the nervous system and quiet the internal noise of a busy mind. We use movement, stillness, and breath to move the body out of 'fight or flight' mode and into a state of calm. There are no fast sequences here; just space to breathe and recalibrate.

  • Focus: Nervous system regulation, stress relief, and mental calm.

  • Best for: Anyone feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply in need of a quiet hour.

1700 Wednesdays

The Warm Unwind

Gently Heated Stillness Our most restorative offering. The room is kept at a gentle, soothing temperature by infrared heating. The heat penetrates deeply to help muscles soften and the body relax without the intensity of a high-heat workout (think deliciously warm, not hot and sweaty). Using bolsters and blankets to fully support the body, we stay in restorative shapes for longer to encourage deep physical recovery.

  • Focus: Deep relaxation and physical restoration.

  • Best for: Recovery, flexibility, and those who enjoy a soothing, warm environment.

1810 Monday & 1400 Friday

Which class is right for me?

All abilities and levels of experience can be accommodated in all classes. No-one is “too stiff” to do yoga at Mend & Extend, but equally if you’re a seasoned practitioner of yoga you will love the variety, and the joy of practicing in a dedicated, beautiful, fully equipped space. If you aren't sure where to start, Alignment Yoga is my signature method. If you are feeling physically exhausted or mentally drained, The Warm Unwind or Yoga for Busy Minds will provide the restorative space you need. For a quick dip in and out or to build a healthy habit into your life the Morning Movement Club is an express 45-minute class open to anyone, anytime, full of friendly variety

For those who used to join me at the Cockermouth and Workington Leisure Centres, Alignment Yoga is the class you will recognise the best. If you are recovering from surgery or managing a specific condition, please let us know before class so we can prepare the necessary props for you.

  • "The infrared heat is a game-changer. It’s a deep, soothing warmth that makes you want to stay on the mat forever. I’ve already booked my next session."

  • "The studio is a total sanctuary. From the herringbone floors to the mural in the bathroom, you can tell every detail has been thought about."

  • "I'm so glad Jo is back teaching yoga in Cockermouth!"
