Psychotherapy with Jo Cook

From Coping to Processing

Mental ill-health rarely comes out of nowhere; it usually arises after years of "coping." While coping can get us a long way, it takes an enormous amount of energy to keep difficult experiences submerged. Eventually, the system reaches its limit, and that’s often when anxiety, depression, or burnout take hold.

I work with individuals to move beyond the limitations of the past. Using evidence-based talking therapies and EMDR, we work to reset, heal, and rebuild—allowing you to live by your own rules rather than those dictated by your history.

How I work

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing)

While talking therapy is wonderful for raising self-awareness, many people get stuck at the “so what can I do about it?” stage. EMDR offers a practical, empowering answer.

  • The Gold Standard: Approved by the NHS and the World Health Organisation, it is the leading treatment for PTSD and trauma.

  • Beyond Trauma: Modern evidence shows that EMDR is radically effective for anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem by processing the underlying experiences that fuel them.

  • A Private Approach: Whilst there is plenty of space for talking if that’s what you need; EMDR can be surprisingly private; you can often process deep-seated issues without ever having to describe them out loud.

Relational Talking Therapy

The single most important factor in successful therapy is the relationship between us. I provide a grounded, safe, and confidential space where you can be heard and met person-to-person. Together, we build a therapeutic relationship that allows you to face whatever is challenging you and move toward a lighter future.

The Therapy Space

I believe the environment where you do therapy should be healing in itself. At Mend & Extend, my dedicated movement and mental health studio, your sessions take place in a dedicated, private office.

  • Islands of Calm: Enjoy our dedicated waiting room—a transition space designed to help you settle before your session begins.

  • Privacy First: The office is sound-mitigated and physically separate from the movement studio, ensuring your total privacy and focus.
